sculpting stories

My unusual spherical artist books, with their round pages supported by a central stem, are a testament to the intertwined beauty of organic forms and the tactile legacy of handmade objects. My ancestors were a masters of many crafts – quilting, knitting, ceramics, woodworking, and basket weaving. Their hands, always in motion, creating beauty and utility from simple materials, have profoundly influenced my artistic journey. The spherical shape of these books echoes the roundness of a quilted patch, the loops of knitting, the curves of a ceramic bowl, and the woven structure of a basket. Each page is a dance between the natural world and the human touch. The central stem of these books serves as both a literal and metaphorical axis, around which stories and memories revolve. It is a symbol of core connections that bind us to our past, our environment, and each other.
